Pickle Bear Art Club presents Eye-Popping Exhibit at Overture Center

MADISON, WI – Pickle Bear Art Club proudly announces the opening of "Day of the Fantastic Day", the group's latest exhibit at Overture Center for the Arts. The large-scale exhibit is a compelling visual narrative by artists with and without developmental disabilities. The display is free and open to the public through January 3rd 2007 and is located in Gallery I on Overture's main floor (outside the entrance to the Capitol Theatre). There will be an opening reception for "Day of the Fantastic Day" on Sunday, November 12 from 2-4 pm in Gallery I.

"Day of the Fantastic Day" is a collaborative, family-friendly art installation that tells the story of Winchester, a fun-loving starfish. Winchester wakes up one morning, excited to meet up with his friends for a party, only to find that his friends are nowhere to be found. Winchester searches high and low for his pals in a colorful version of Madison, and in the process he encounters many wild characters and unusual events.

Pickle Bear Art Club began work on "Day of the Fantastic Day" in
January 2006 when members participated in group discussions and drawing sessions to develop a plot, characters, and settings.
Photographs taken by Pickle Bear members, along with original drawings and illustrations, were magnified and transferred to wood and paper, or fabricated from other materials. The images were then used to create paintings and other art works. Every piece in the exhibit was conceived, designed, constructed, and painted by multiple members of the group.

Pickle Bear's Dave Daly said of the group, "It's great to have people with non disabilities and disabilities come together and put our ideas together. It's great to have people accept us as individuals and look at life from our point of view." In describing the show, he commented, "It's colors, it's life, it's beauty…it's KA-POW!"

Pickle Bear Art Club formed in November 2003. Members work in informal environments that promote creativity, art making, relationship building and community integration.

"Day of the Fantastic Day" is sponsored by the law firm DeWitt Ross & Stevens. Additional funding is provided by the Arts Access Fund, a component of the Madison Community Foundation, with additional support from Overture Center for the Arts and contributors to the Ovation Fund
